Gate Refurbishing

Don't replace it. Refurbish it. We rebuild sun-damaged gates with cedar or redwood slats, repaint and seal the metal, and fix sag, latches and springs so it looks better than new.

Has the Arizona sun destroyed your gate? Most discount fence companies install a metal gate with untreated pine slats at a ridiculously cheap price. Within 6 months the wood is turning brown and cracking. Within 2 years it is splitting, and the paint is chipping and rusting. Within 5 years your neighbors are wondering if the house has been abandoned.

At 6 Star Properties we don't take shortcuts. When we refurbish your gate, we make it better than new. We custom cut each plank to fit perfectly, sand each plank, and seal it with a marine-grade, waterproof UV sealer. This brings out the beauty of the natural wood and will protect it for many years to come. If you prefer stain or paint, we can do that too.

Next, we remove any rust from the frame and repaint it like new. We use new mounting hardware when necessary and lock each bolt in place with threadlocker so they never come loose and fall off!

We prefer cedar or redwood. Both are economical, rot-resistant and bug-resistant, and they look amazing. With a quick spray of sealer every couple of years they can last for decades.

Like the idea of hassle-free composite slats? Most gates only have 3 anchor points, and composite on a 3-anchor gate WILL warp. If you want composite, we weld in extra anchor points first.

The process

Our 8-Step Process

  1. Measure the existing slats and cut new ones to size

  2. Sand all 6 sides of the new material for a smooth finish

  3. Stain and/or seal with a UV & waterproof sealer

  4. Remove rust and paint chips from the metal frame

  5. Repair the gate: replace broken springs, adjust the latch, fix sag

  6. Mask off and repaint the metal to look like new

  7. Attach slats with new, color-matched hardware, with every bolt threadlocked so nothing comes loose

  8. Seal the entire gate, metal and wood, with a final UV & waterproof coat

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it cheaper to refurbish a gate than replace it?

Often, yes. We keep the metal frame, replace the sun-damaged slats with cedar, redwood or composite, repaint the metal and fix sag, latches and springs.

What wood do you use for gate slats?

Cedar, redwood or composite. Each plank is cut to fit, sanded and sealed with a marine-grade, waterproof UV sealer.

Do you fix sagging RV gates?

Yes. We repair sag on RV gates, side gates and double gates, and replace broken springs and adjust latches.
